Members of a parliamentary committee want New South Wales Premier Barry O’Farrell to step in and reverse a decision to shut down the Cronulla Fisheries Research Centre, in southern Sydney.
An upper house inquiry describes the plan as an example of how not to undertake decentralisation, and members say the premier should consider sacking Primary Industries Minister Katrina Hodgkinson over the debacle.
The relocation is being undertaken as part of the government’s commitment to decentralising services.
However, it’s causing anger among more than 100 Cronulla staff opposed to moving to new headquarters in Port Stephens, Nowra, and Coffs Harbour.
