The administration of US President Joe Biden does not intend to end the US military presence in the Middle East, as recently reported by some media outlets, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Joey Hood, said yesterday.
“I must stress, against the background of a lot of recent misinformation in this regard, that our partnerships in the field of security will remain,” Hood told reporters.
“Our permanent military presence in the region has been a guarantor for more than 70 years, and this basic reality will not change,” he added.
The US, he said, is adapting to changing conditions and threats in the region, stressing that some of the American forces in the region are training partners.
He also affirmed the US’ commitment to ensuring freedom of trade and navigation and preventing any disturbance to the American and global economies.
