‘OIC against any intervention in Syria’

Referring to the foreign military campaigns in Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq and Somalia, OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu noted that a foreign military intervention would only harm the Syrian people.

Ihsanoglu made the remarks as the OIC and the Arab League are set to meet in Tunisia on February 24 to discuss the conflict in Syria.

Many countries including Russia and China believe Washington and other Western powers are trying to replicate a Libya-style military campaign in Syria.

Press TV has conducted an interview with Tawliq al-Jarrad, political analyst, to share his opinion on this issue.

The following is a transcript of the interview:

Press TV: The OIC has now added its voice to the opposition of any form of intervention in Syria. Tell us about the significance of this statement and also on the other hand what would a Libyan-style intervention mean for the Syrian people?

Al-Jarrad: As far as we are concerned in what is going on in Syria, the Transitional Council that is based in Istanbul and sometimes in Paris under the shelter or the umbrella of France and its allies also, they are going to wage a mission, an information campaign against Syria saying that the Syrian government is bombarding their places in Homs.

At the same time they are planning to conclude a meeting in Tunisia in 24th of late this month. Why they are planning also to have a meeting in Istanbul, some close relation with when Mr. Ahmet Davutoglu comes back from Washington, where he discussed the possibilities of state of establishing what he called a better zone in the Northern part of Syria which includes Idlib and some villages close to that northern city.

The question is what they are aiming at doing when they are planning to do something like this? They are planning to divide Syria into two parts, first if they were able.

Therefore under such a pressure I think that the Syrian government is going to have a decisive decision just to end what is going on in the area before the mid of next March.

Had they succeeded it means Syria will be important pair in the area as well as it is in the international affairs within the back of Iran, Russia and China and also the countries of Southern of Latin America.

At that time we have to celebrate the creation of a new order in the world. This is to stand or to face what George Bush later by the end of the Kuwait invasion in 1991 declared that he is going to establish a new world order.

It means that America nowadays who are facing a campaign led by America and sometimes led by it allies France and Britain as the latter is somewhat shy, they are going to prevail their influence under what we call a hegemony of the 21st century according to the result [of] that meeting that was held last March in Lisbon of Portugal.
