Oil shipments from Kharg Terminal 80% up Y/Y

Shana — Iran shipped 780 million barrels of crude oil from Kharg Oil Terminal during the previous calendar year to March 20, up by 80% from the previous year, a senior oil terminals official said.

Gholamhossein Gerami, director of operations at the Iranian Oil Terminals Company (IOTC), said Iran exported over 230 million barrels of light crude oil, 480 million barrels of heavy crude and nearly 70 million barrels of Forouzan crude from the terminal.

This is while some 432 mb were shipped from the terminal in the preceding year, said Gerami, arguing that the increase was a result of the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Last calendar year 800 vessels called at the terminal for receiving shipments while the figure stood at 540 ships in the preceding year.

Furthermore, export of gas condensate (ultralight crude) rose by 48% from the terminal, he added. Last year 206 million barrels of the item was exported from Kharg terminal.

Due to its close distance to oilfield regions, its good offshore position and suitable depth for gigantic oil vessels berthing, Kharg Island has been  recognized as the most suitable place for crude oils exports and loading site, and after concluding contract with  oil consortium, the project of developing loading quays and crude oil reserves was initiated in it. Kharg terminal was run by South Oilfields Regions Company.

In 2012, Kharg Oil Terminal handled 98% of Iran’s crude oil exports.
