Days of Palestine, Jerusalem -Palestinian hunger-striking journalist Mohamed al-Qeeq is dying as he enters day 92 of his hunger-strike, lawyer Hiba Masalha told mass media on Wednesday.
“He is no longer breathing normally and is currently suffering severe pains,” Masalha said, noting that his body had “collapsed” and he is suffering severe convulsions and stiffness, sight problems, a low heart rate and is unable to talk.
“Doctors at HaEmek Medical Centre in Afula were observing the hunger-striker carefully,” she said, “and they are expecting his death at any moment.”
“Even if he lived,” she pointed out, “it is unlikely he would ever fully recover from the gigantic damage the hunger-strike caused to his body.”
She added: “Israeli irresponsible position on his hunger-strike proves that it does not at all value the human life.”
Al-Qeeq, a 33-year-old journalist from the southern occupied West Bank, initially went on hunger strike in late November to protest the torture and ill-treatment he said he faced in Israeli prison.
