Perth ‘tent embassy’ structures removed

POLICE and council rangers have moved in on an Aboriginal “tent embassy” in Perth and dismantled tents illegally set up on a public reserve.

About 50 police officers and 10 City of Perth rangers arrived at Heirisson Island at 5.30pm (WST) today for the operation.

Inspector Bill Munnee said protesters were asked to remove the tents. When they refused council rangers moved in to take them down and put them on a truck.

He said police were standing by to ensure the rangers could do their job without hinderance.

As the truck moved off protesters chanted and waved flags.
