It does not take much nor long for anyone entering Gaza from the outside to realize the true value of its shores to its people.
The moment you take a single step with your bare feet on the sand and look to your left then right, you notice the sun is setting, you see the people at play, instantly you are filled with joy, instantly you understand what the people go through and instantly you realize how the shore has become their true lifeline.
If Gaza were to be a patient in a hospital Intensive Care Unit, the sea would then become the ventilator, the defibrillator, the heart-lung machine, and the anesthesia. In no other place in the Strip would you see the people in such a joyful state, so much so that their miserable reality begins to fade away for a brief moment, and it is exactly for this reason that the shores of Gaza hold such deep meaning.
Here, life is revived, and here, life is created.

Mahmoud Nasser is a documentary/street photographer born and raised in Gaza City. He was lucky to leave Gaza for Canada with his family during times of turmoil in 2008, but even luckier to see himself back in even worse times in 2021 after nearly 13 years of living abroad. His love for photography has seen him back in a place where many are literally dying to leave at the drop of a dime.
