Police crash into house during car chase



A POLICE car has crashed into the side of a house in Melbourne’s northern suburbs while capturing a man who has been on the run from police for almost two months.


The man had escaped from Castlemaine police station on October 8.

Police tracked the man to a house in Wilson St, Fawkner and spoke to him there about 11.30am (AEDT).

The man again ran from police and fled in a silver Holden Commodore.

While driving off he ran into a police car, causing it crash into the side of a house near the corner of Lesleigh and Lorne Streets.

The driver again fled the scene before dumping the car in Malborough St.

Police finally arrested him just after 12pm in the backyard of a house in Argyle St, Fawkner.

The man is assisting police with their inquiries.

No one was injured during the incident.
