Police investigating suspected gang rape of 13-year-old girl by 4 men

A 13-year-old girl from a central Israeli town filed a police complaint last month alleging she was raped by four men. The alleged victim has been refusing to cooperate with police and social services, Hebrew language media reported.

The young girl, from the Sharon region, fled from her boarding school in southern Israel to report the incident some three weeks ago. She was taken at the time for examination at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center, who confirmed she had been raped.

She complained to police that four men had raped her, one after the other.

Since the incident was reported to the Hadera police department, she was returned to her educational institution but fled once more. She was located again on Friday.

An official involved in the investigation told Channel 12 that it was “a shocking and difficult story.”

As of Friday, no suspects had been arrested.

A spokesperson for the police stated: “As soon as the complaint was received by police regarding the suspicion of sexual crimes committed against a minor, an investigation was opened.” He added that “the police will continue to investigate the case thoroughly and perform all necessary actions in order to reach the truth.”

A spokesperson for the regional council of the girl’s residence said that “the case is known and is being treated in an intensive manner by welfare services.”

In September, 11 suspects were indicted for the alleged gang rape of a teenage girl in Eilat, a case that shocked the country and spurred calls for reforms in how the country deals with sexual assault.
