The police used live rounds on Friday to disperse angry demonstrators in the Shia majority town of Parachinar in Kurram Agency, which is located near the border with Afghanistan.
Earlier in the day, at least 25 people were killed and scores more injured after a bomb attack ripped through worshipers as they were returning from Friday Prayers.
Parachinar is the main town in Kurram tribal region, which is viewed as a bastion for the Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants, who are believed to be holed in the region following military offensives against their hideouts in the nearby tribal regions
The pro-Taliban militants have launched a violent campaign against Shia Muslims over the past years.
The Shia Muslims in Kurram have been facing a humanitarian crisis since November 2007, when pro-Taliban groups cut off the area from the rest of the country.
Local sources say hundreds of Shias have been killed in the region since the start of the campaign by the militants.
TTP militants have targeted several Shia religious gatherings in different parts of the country over the past few months.
