With spring right around the corner (according to the groundhog), everyone is determined to get his or her homes ready for the new season. So Lysol and Swiffer up because tackling spring-cleaning isn’t as easy for those who are on the go. Luckily, the National Association of Professional Organizers of Chicago has provided 5 tips to help ease into spring-cleaning and transform your homes into a clean organized sanctuary.
1. Be Aggressive
Don’t wait till the end of April to clean your home. Good organizers start at the beginning of spring (March 20th) and have a clean home well into summer.
2. Restore Order
Don’t let your winter items lag their way into your spring life. Restore your closets with your spring and summer clothes and store the fall and winter clothes elsewhere. Switch out your linens, pillows, blankets, etc so that you are prepared for spring weather.
3. Command Center
Use an entry table, home office, or calendar board to keep track of your life. Entry tables can have a key dish, and a note bad that has important reminders and dates on them. A home office needs to be organized especially since we all just experienced the tedious process of doing our taxes. Don’t make the same mistake this year, organize your home office into categories (bills, work files, invitations, cards, etc). A calendar board in the kitchen or in the home office will also keep track of important dates.
4. It’s All in The Shoes
Store away those Uggs and winter boots! Invest in a shoe rack and welcome rug to make sure that your shoes don’t track in outside mud or dirt. Break out your rain boots and spring footwear so that you have room on your shoe rack for the shoes you are going to wear the most and put your winter footwear into storage.
5. Be a Basket Case
The easiest way is to store all your gear in a decorative way is baskets. From toys to magazines baskets provide and easy to way store your clutter but keep it accessible.
