A student has been arrested in relation to the murder of a 61-year-old female British teacher in Leeds.
Anne Maguire, a Spanish teacher with 41 years experience died on her way to hospital after she was stabbed to death in front of her pupils in the Corpus Christi school in Leeds on Monday.
A local police official said, “At 11.48 a.m. today police were contacted by the ambulance service who were attending a report of a member of staff having been stabbed at Corpus Christi Catholic college, in Neville Road, Leeds. The female member of staff was taken to hospital for treatment but was subsequently pronounced dead.”
The official added that, “A 15-year-old male pupil has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in custody.”
The detained student is expected to face charges over the teacher’s death.
British Prime Minister David Cameron has described the attack as deeply shocking.
There has been a rise in violence in British schools over the last few years.
According to the teacher’s union, attacks on teachers are not common but the frequency of such attacks is increasing.
