The demonstrations took place on Thursday after the provincial government called on the student unions to join talks to end months of protests which started after government announced its plans to raise student fees.
In Montreal, thousands of people poured into the streets at 8 p.m. local time, banged pots and chanted against Law 78, which was passed last week requiring demonstrators to inform police of their route before any protest.
At least, 500 people attended similar protests in the provincial capital, Quebec City, and other demonstrations were also held across the province.
The demonstrations have mounted since mid-February after the government announced plans to increase student tuition fees by 82 percent with the raise expected to be gradually introduced over five years.
The students are also infuriated by the province’s new law that restricts the demonstrations. Under the new law for any demonstration of 50 or more people, police should be informed eight hours in advance and told of the route of the demonstration.
Police arrested about 700 people in Montreal and Quebec City on Thursday.
Students have been holding almost daily protests in Quebec over the past weeks in an attempt to add up pressure on the government to drop the plan to increase the tuition fee.
