Red Cross: Catastrophic Situation in Yemen Port of Aden

The Red Cross continues to try to get the Saudi government to allow them to deliver humanitarian aid to Yemen, which is being attacked by Saudi forces, and they are warning of worsening humanitarian woes.

The situation is said to be worst in the southern port city of Aden, where Houthi forces have been fighting with the remnants of former President Hadi’s allies. The city also seems to be the main target of the Saudis in recent days.

Today, the reports included not only airstrikes, but shelling from Saudi naval forces parked of the coast, though Saudi officials insisted that they aren’t confirming or denying any fire from the ships, and that their main mission is to blockade the ports.

Yemen is the Middle East’s poorest nation, and on-again, off-again wars have left a lot of the country constantly on the brink of humanitarian calamity. The Saudi attacks have quickly turned many Yemeni cities into disasters, and the blocking of Red Cross aid is only adding to the woes.
