The Rhode Island State House is joining the list of locations all around the United States and the world as it will be bathed in the blue and white to celebrate the Greek bicentennial of the War of Independence on Thursday.
Greek-American Rhode Island State Senator Leonidas Raptakis says that the Rhode Island State House dome in Providence will be illuminated as a way to honor the 200th anniversary of Greek Independence.
Senator Raptakis represents Rhode Island’s District 33, which comprises Coventry, East Greenwich, and West Greenwich.
State-of-the-art lighting will help celebrate Greek bicentennial
The Rhode Island State House dome uses its state-of-the-art LED exterior lighting to celebrate holidays and other special events throughout the year. And this March 25 will be extraordinarily special this year because it marks the 200th anniversary of freedom as the modern state of Greece.
When he ran for office in 2012, Raptakis stated “I am excited about the opportunity to return to the state senate and continue my work on behalf of the people of Rhode island while also working with my many friends in the Greek community on a range of important issues.
Raptakis has been a strong voice on a range of Hellenic issues during his time in the Rhode Island legislature.
