Robin Hood

By Ron McVan

Against life’s evil, he fought for the good,
From deep in the heart, of the Nottingham wood.
A feather in his cap, and clad all in green,
Handsome, noble, long and lean.

Master archer, a champion of the poor,
Fighting all oppressions, to even the score.
With a band of twelve trusted merry men,
And Herne as his teacher, wizard and friend,
He lived a life, both valiant and renown,
Neither kings or sheriffs, could put him down.
An outlaw he was, to a system gone wrong,
Yet bravely he fought it, as in folklore and song.

At one with Nature, with the forest and oak,
A hero of merit, to the world, and his folk.
His deeds will be remembered, for evermore.
For as long as tyranny, oppresses the poor.
For as long as liberty remains denied.
For as long as injustice, rears its head, far and wide.
For as long as corruption, overshadows the good,
A bold spirit, lives within us… known as Robin Hood!
