Rocket landed inside Indian embassy compound in Kabul

nsnbc : A rocket landed inside the compound of the Indian embassy in the Afghan capital Kabul Monday evening, confirmed External Affairs Minister Sushma Swraj who used Twitter to confirm that all Indians and embassy staff are safe.

Afghanistan_Kabul_2018_archivesExternal Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj posted on Twitter “A rocket has landed in our Chancery compound in Kabul. The rocket has clipped the top of the three storied ITBP barracks. There are no casualties. All Indians and staff are safe.”

Raveesh Kumar, the spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs said on Twitter “A rocket landed in the premises of our Embassy in Kabul a while ago causing minor damage to a structure at rear side of the Embassy compound. No fire or casualties. Our Charge d’ Affaires informs that all Embassy employees are safe.”

Earlier, Afghanistan’s TOLOnews reported that the rocket had landed close to the Indian embassy in the 14th Street of Wazir Mohammad Akbar Khan, located in the heart of the city. This incident took place hours after the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) delegation left the country after a two-day visit to Kabul.

So far there hasn’t been presented any verifiable evidence that would allow to determine exactly who has fired the missile, why, and if the embassy was the intended target. India has increased its security cooperation and coordination with the Afghan government, making Indian assets in Afghanistan more prone to Taliban attacks or – as some analysts might presume – to attacks from Pakistani and Iranian-backed assets.
