In an attempt to quash news reports about Donald Trump and investigations surrounding him and his associates, deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein is warning Americans not to believe articles citing “anonymous officials”.

Rosenstein said in a statement: “Americans should exercise caution before accepting as true any stories attributed to anonymous ‘officials,’ particularly when they do not identify the country — let alone the branch or agency of government — with which the alleged sources supposedly are affiliated. Americans should be skeptical about anonymous allegations. The Department of Justice has a long-established policy to neither confirm nor deny such allegations.”

The statement came on the heels of the Washington Post reporting that Jared Kushner was under investigation by Robert Mueller, special counsel.

Adding to the controversy, ABC News is reporting that Rosenstein “acknowledged to colleagues that he may have to recuse himself from the matter… during a recent meeting with Associate Attorney General Rachel Brand, the Justice Department’s new third-in-command” meaning the Trump-Russia investigation in total.

Brad was notified that if Rosenstein were “to recuse himself, she would have to step in and take over those responsibilities.”

Trump has been on the defensive, taking to Twitter to complain about “being investigated for firing the FBI director” and declared the entire issue a “witch hunt”.

In this tweet Trump is referring to Rosenstein who authored the memo recommending Comey be fired.

The White House is defending Trump’s tweet, saying he is “taking matters into his own hands.”

Associates of Trump are in more than a bit of hot water over the Russia probe. According to the Guardian, attorney general Jeff Sessions lied under oath before the Senate Intelligence Committee last week when he said he doesn’t “believe” he’s had any “contacts with any representative, including any American lobbyist or agent of any Russian company.”

Sessions apparently hosted Richard Burt, a lobbyist for Gazprom (a Russian state-owned pipeline corporation dealing in petrol) and representatives of Alfa Bank (a Russian bank with direct ties to Putin).

Burt said months ago that he had met with Sessions last October and at least 2 more times during the campaign. And it was Burt’s lobby firm called National Interest that hosted Trump’s speech at the Mayflower hotel.

Burt also provided content for Trump’s speech that night at the hotel.

Mike Pence sparked the interest of the media after it was revealed that he hired Richard Cullen, a former state attorney general, as his legal representative for all things Russia.

Pence should be concerned after he told the American public on more than one occasion that he did not know Flynn was a foreign agent, lobbying for Turkey during the campaign, the transition, and onto his 24 day stent as National Security Adviser.

As head of the Trump transition team, Pence was warned by Congressman Elijah Cummings in writing that Flynn was under suspicion for being a foreign agent for Turkey, and Flynn’s own lawyer told Pence on 2 occasions that his client should register as a foreign agent because of his paid lobbyist position with the Turkish government.
