Birthday party attendees
The 64 New Zealanders who will celebrate their birthday with the Prince of Wales on November 14 have been announced.
Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall are visiting New Zealand next month as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
To help celebrate the occasion, adult New Zealanders whose birthdays fell on November 14 were asked to apply for an invitation to a birthday party at Government House in Wellington.
The sixty-four attendees were selected from more than 1500 applications.
Applicants are coming from all over the country – and one, Leondard Cheah, is coming from San Diego in the United States.
Those who applied for an invitation before the cut-off point are to receive a birthday card from Prince Charles and the Governor-General.
Governor General Sir Jerry Mateparae and the Prime Minister’s wife Bronagh Key also celebrate their birthdays on November 14.
The Governor General said he was heartened by the response.
“The birthday party has really captured the public imagination and shows the genuine interest New Zealanders hold in the forthcoming Royal visit,” he said.
“I’m really looking forward to meeting those selected and enjoying a great Kiwi-themed birthday party with Their Royal Highnesses.”
