Salt Lake City Police Officer Arrested For Child Pornography


An officer with the Salt Lake City Police Department was arrested for child pornography charges Wednesday night.

Officer Jonathan Dew was booked into the Davis County Jail just before 8 p.m. for three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, court documents state.

Dew was placed on administrative leave as the incident is pending an open and active investigation by an outside agency. He will be on leave until the investigation is completed, a press release stated.

On Oct. 20, agents received requests to download files of known child pornography files, court documents state. Agents used the IP address associated with the request to identify the subscriber.

On Nov. 7, the ICAC Task Force executed a residential search warrant at the subscriber’s home in the Syracuse area. A woman and two children were there. Agents forensically previewed and located several computer devices at the home.

Agents found a silver HP computer laptop that had links to files that contained child pornography. The woman told the task force that the laptop belonged to her husband, Dew, court documents stated. The laptop was found in a closet in a room where only Dew frequents in the residence. The woman said she thought that the laptop was broken.

Agents attempted to interview Dew at his home, but he requested an attorney after being read his Miranda Warning.

The Utah Attorney General’s Office has set his bail at $500,000.
