Scientists Reveal Identity Of Mysterious ‘Sea Monster’ Found On Mexican Beach

From the Kraken and Moby Dick to Nessie the Loch Ness Monster, people have been telling tales about sea monsters for centuries. While these famous sea creatures may be a work of fiction, they are often inspired by very real and mysterious creatures that roam the seas. In December, scientists found one such creature on the beaches of Mexico.

Mysterious Sea Creature Washes Up In Mexico

The corpse of a strange sea creature washed ashore on Mexico’s Laguna Ojo de Liebre. It’s appearance initially left scientists baffled by what it could be. The creature was about seven feet long. There were fins on both sides of its body, and it had two tails instead of one. Scientists were sure that whatever the creature was, it had never been seen before. After studying it a little more closely, they finally solved the mystery.

The strange sea creature on the beaches of Mexico was actually a pair of conjoined gray white twins, an extremely rare occurrence! Scientists realized that something had gone wrong during birth. They suspect that the pair of whales were the product of a miscarriage. Most gray whales are born between the beginning of January and the middle of February. The fact that these whales were found in December suggests they were premature, along with the fact that the pair were only seven feet long. Most newborn gray whales are around 12 feet long.

Eastern North Pacific gray whales are listed on the International Union for the Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species. They are often hunted for different parts of their bodies, including their meat and bones, which has left some species extinct. Researchers hope that the mother of the conjoined twins is OK and will go on to have plenty of healthy babies in the future!
