A senior public servant involved in running Western Australia’s prison system has been charged with vandalising 135 luxury cars, causing more than $400,000 damage.
Gilles Gaudet, 46, was charged yesterday with 135 counts of criminal damage after a police raid on his suburban Morley home.
Mr Gaudet, who is a team leader for policy and legislation at WA’s Department of Corrective Services, is alleged to have poured paint stripper on the vehicles in a crime spree beginning in January.
Police said they had no motive for the alleged vandalism, which included damage to a $380,000 Mercedes-Benz owned by high-profile Perth Glory soccer team owner Tony Sage.
Mr Gaudet’s home was raided after a police tip-off.
He was bailed to appear in court on November 8.
