The head of the Syrian National Social Party, Ali Haidar, said that his party has not yet registered a presidential candidate and that it is not sure whether they will.

The deadline for registering candidacies is May1. Haydar stressed, however, that presidential elections are a national and constitutional right and an example of Syrian sovereignty.

Speaking on Syrian television, Haydar stressed that elections should be approached politically and that the party will carry out its duties in this process in accordance with laws and regulations. Haydar stressed that the SNDP never has boycotted any elections and that it participated in forming the new constitution, the current government, and in the elections to the People’s Assembly.

Haydar said that even though the party has not yet adopted a candidate for the presidency it will participate in the elections. If the party does not pose its own candidate, we will be voting for other candidates, he said.
