Army veteran Hugh Billington was jailed for seven years after he crashed a tanker laden with 2,000 litres of fuel into his estranged wife’s home in an attempt to destroy it
A former Household Cavalry musician who tried to firebomb his estranged wife’s home by ramming a fuel tanker into it was jailed for seven years yesterday.
Hugh Billington smashed the 7.5-ton vehicle through the front wall of his former marital home, hoping to kill himself in a desperate act of revenge.
His wife Christine, 53, who had a restraining order against him, escaped through a back window.
When the crash failed to trigger an explosion, lorry driver Billington walked around the bungalow spraying kerosene in four rooms, which he then set alight.
He turned on the gas hob in the kitchen and loosened the tanker’s fuel valves before fleeing.
Passer-by Darren Fletcher reversed the tanker away to avoid a blast at the bungalow in Wool, Dorset – only yards from a primary school.
Billington, 51, attacked an off-duty special constable who tried to stop him running away and stole a pair of overalls to try to evade police following the attack on January 20 this year.
Police found a suicide note at his work in which he wrote his goodbyes to his grown-up children.

Billington’s 30 year marriage ended months before the attack.
Jailing Billington at Dorchester Crown Court, Judge Roger Jarvis said: ‘All of this took place when people were walking past, including children, and that is concerning. It shows just how wickedly irresponsible you were.’
Billington, pleaded guilty to a charge of arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered.

He was fuelled by jealousy!

Why dont these insecure possessive losers realise if they worked on themselves to be a better person, then their partners wont want to leave them. These idiots makes other peoples lives so intolerable they have to take restraining orders and still cant see the problem is them and not the other person.

If you go by recent past sentences, he would have only got 6 years if he’d knifed her to death.
