Zero Hedge
Sept 26, 2011

Wondering what caused the dramatic plunge in gold and silver earlier? Wonder no more: the CME’s counterpart in China, the Shanghai Gold Exchange, decided to follow through with an identical, if more substantial, action to that undertaken by the CME on Friday, and announced an increase in the Silver T+D contract margin from 15% to 18%, a 20% bump; the SGE also noted an increase in the price range limit from 12% to 15%, which will be promptly fulfilled, as margin hikes traditionally tend to lead to a sudden spike in vol, contrary to well-meaning expectations. There was a second announcement, slightly more cryptic one, noting that if volatility were to persist, the SGE would outright halt silver trading (although the Google Translation of this previously unseen form announcement is a little sketchy). Expect to see more exchange intervention in precious metals today. Regardless, those who bought silver 15% lower a whopping, oh, two hours ago, courtesy of the out and out sheer panic, are quite grateful to the Chinese.

  2. While china may seem to be a growing economy, its Wallstreet is no different than ours, because all banking is now international. They are waging war against “Real Money” (Gold and Silver) to keep thier currencies afloat, which through the Fractional Reserve system is being used by the Comex market. They must continue to raise their margins until it comes to a one to one ratio. Meaning that they, (the comex and/or houses selling gold and silver ETFs) must have on hand 100% reserves for what they are selling. When they reach that point, real money will have to be brought back into existance.
Fractional Reserve in the Comex market is insanity. Realize that these corrections are nothing more than profit points for those manipulating that market. The SEC should be investigating these devaluations. While it all looks well and good, that the Comex is trying to keep everything on the up and up by forcing the increase of reserves, how it is done is criminal in its intent to give an advantage to the speculative few.
So, the bottom line advice here is not to jump out of the market because you spposedly fear Deflation, but to stay in for the long haul. Do also remember that Gold and Silver is a HEDGE against future inflation. Our government knows full well that it cannot stop Inflation at this point, so markets will continue to be manipulated for those being forced to find profits from investments wherever they can, thus forcing the market to jump up and down like an Autistic child. This will continue until there are no more options left, because our economy will either flatline or fall into the basement, at which point “Real Money” will have to be brought back as a medium of exchange !!!

  3. There is a positive side to these recent moves by the CME and the Shanghai Gold Exchange in raising margin rates. Perhaps it wasn’t the intentional plan but by hiking the margins they reduce the paper gold and silver in existence. Paper markets, like paper in currencies is not a true representation of anything. Low margin requirements allow for the exaggeration of the existence of the underlying item. In short, if these brokerages do not possess the quantity or quality of the underlying product, then it’s called paper. The positive thing to come out of these recent hikes is that more participants in these paper markets will move into owning actual gold and silver and that’s got to be a good thing for the long term holders and the stability of price action. In the recent past gold and silver holder’s of the actual medal have been very reluctant to part with their hoards. When the dust settles from all this paper trading people will discover that sitting tight was right.

  4. Banks have but one motive: Profit through theft by deception ! If you hold paper of any description, Beware, you’re in their sights !
