Six injured in SE Turkey explosion

The blast took place on Tuesday at 13:20 local time (1020 GMT) at Kosuyolu Street in Baglar district of the city, Turkish Today’s Zaman reported.

The injured were immediately transferred to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Local police launched an investigation into the incident.

The motive behind the attack remains unknown and no group has yet claimed responsibility for the incident.

In January, three students were injured after an explosion hit a high school in the city of Cizre in the southeastern Turkish province of Sirnak.

In August 2012, a car bomb explosion left at least nine people dead and 68 more injured in the center of the southeastern city of Gaziantep.

Turkish officials usually blame militants of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) for such attacks.

This is while, Turkish army entered into a truce with PKK leader, Abdullah Ocalan, back in March 2013, halting a 28-year armed struggle between the two sides.

In July, the group threatened to call off the peace deal with Turkey, accusing Ankara of not living up to the promises it has made.

The PKK has been fighting for an autonomous Kurdish region in southeastern Turkey since the 1980s. The conflict has left tens of thousands of people dead.

Ocalan, who was captured by Turkish security forces in the Kenyan capital Nairobi in 1999, is serving a life sentence at Imrali Island prison on charges of leading the PKK in its armed campaign against Ankara.
