An IDF spokesman announced this morning that, following completion of their medical treatment, six of the seven injured Syrians that recently received medical aid in Israel have been released. The IDF medical discharge of the Syrians was completed at an undisclosed location for their own safety. The six returned to Syria and an additional Syrian who is severely wounded remains hospitalized for further treatment.
Israel admitted the Syrians on Feb. 16 through the Golan Heights, and Israeli officials gave no further details on the casualties’ identities. The seven were wounded during heavy fighting in Syria during which Syrian troops bombarded the demilitarized zone near Israel on Saturday, in reprisal for rebel action nearby, according to AFP. The injured suffered from gunshot and shrapnel wounds, and were operated on at Ziv hospital in Tsfat.
This was the first time that Syrians were taken to Israel for medical treatment since the uprising against President Bashar Assad began almost two years ago.
