Smokers could lose one third of their everyday memory, warn experts

People who smoke could lose around one third of their everyday memory, researchers say.

A study by a team at Northumbria University has shown that smokers lose more of their memory when compared to non-smokers.

And the research also found that those who kicked the habit saw their ability to recollect information restored to almost the same level as non-smokers.

Those who took part were asked to recall small details, such as music acts listed to play at the students’ union and tasks completed at various points – known as real world memory test. Smokers performed badly, remembering just 59 per cent of tasks.

  1. the problem with all these little studies is the fact that we’re being slow-killed and manipulated everyday by all kinds of crap in the environment; you can’t just pin-point 1/3 memory loss on cigs alone, that’s absurd.

I’d say Fluoride in the water and crap in the food, has more do with it than cigarettes

  2. ????

  3. 90% of my family members (myself included) smoke cigarettes. Both sides of the family, all smokers since before they were teenagers. All of our health problems are completely non-related to smoking, and of the ones who have died, it was either of natural causes at a ripe old age, cirrhosis, or government negligence (in the case of my brother).

My point- there is no “one size fits all” for anything. I find nothing more refreshing during my 10-mile bike rides or after tackling a steep cliff than a hit off a menthol (except maybe several drags off of a “hand-rolled herbal cigarette” lolz). Yet I know non-smokers (of both items) who cant even walk from the bed to the porcelain god (a distance of exactly 7 feet, I measured it for the full effect) without having to sit on said toilet for half an hour to get their heart rate down.

I know non-smokers who would give their left eye for my stamina and endurance (just ask my fiancee!)

In summary, it all boils down to body chemistry. Claiming cigarettes make your memory worse just adds more fuel to the “us vs. them” fire, and distracts us all from the real “us vs. them” of the debt holders vs. the debt owers.

    • I totally agree. I grew up around farmers and these guys would eat a half pound of bacon for breakfast, smoke to packs a day

      • Sorry got cut off. As I was saying, they would smoke all day long, drink beer all night and eat meat like it was going out of style and most of them are still alive. If we didn’t eat or drink everything they say is bad for us we would all die of starvation or dehydration. Also, it’s not the tobacco that kills people it’s all the shit the tobacco companies put on the tobacco. Former surgeon general C. Everett Koop proclaimed this years ago. This is all mind control, tell sheeple not to do something and they do it more. Ronald Reagen told me not to smoke pot in the 80′s because it causes short term memory loss and he died not even knowing what his name was. This is all bullshit plain and simple.

    • So you’re saying Ann Coulter was right…radiation is good for some of us? Same goes for mercury, aspartame, GMO’s, fluoride, BPA, etc.? All of those studies are meaningless because they distract us?

  4. My take on smoking is that the eugenicists know that smoking makes their vaccines ineffective, thus the push for people to quit, so that the goodness of the annual flu shot does it’s magic.

    • I am a smoker, kinda interesting.
got any links to back up what you claim`?

    • Nope, that research is probably locked away in some lab. Think about it, if they wanted us all dead, which they do, they would be promoting smoking big time. If they want the public to quit because the health care costs are disproportionate smokers vrs. non – in reality they’ll give you an oxygen mask instead of treating you. The I-QUIT lobby is a paradox , huge revenues made on sin taxes, yet they spend quadrillions on social awareness.

Smoking is perhaps a slow kill where cumulative damage to DNA and cancer comes, perhaps not quite quick enough to their liking. Now, give me a battery of vaccines with live cancer viruses that bind to your genetic make up – quicker is more to the NWO’s liking…..

      Question everything, including governments motives

    • My haircutter, a 43 year old woman, has smoked about two packs a day for nearly 25 years. She has stage 3 lung cancer.

  5. “….Although one recognizes the cognitive lucidity or the lucidity of awareness within emptiness, there are different ways that this might be recognized. For example, someone might find that when they look at the nature of a thought, initially the thought arises, and then as the thought dissolves, what it leaves in its wake or what it leaves behind it is an experience or recognition of the unity of cognitive lucidity and emptiness.”
    Yeah! you said it Dude!…
    Huh?…

…and I thought the fact that cigarettes are US$6.45 a pack would be reason enough to quit smoking.
    Silly of me, wasn’t it?

    • Reason 30001 why we shouldn’t have to pay for other peoples health care……

480,000 Americans die each year from Tobacco related illnesses and 420,000 Americans die each year from obesity related illnesses. ONE MILLION AMERICANS who CHOSE to die and I don’t want to pay for it…..

  6. Also, side note. AJ this morning on talk radio in toronto, they where discussing the new crime bill. Mandatory sentences, taking the control from the judges, so to speak. Anyhow, the guest, a defence lawyer, a regular to I beleive…made mention of the fact it’s just another way for the government taking our rights. The people that do that job everyday, being over ruled so to speak. So the message is getting to mainstream up here. I also had two local police in front of me at coffee shop. They were at the door. Small shop location so people usually line up outside the doors when busy. People come out , people move in. These guys wernet moving. So I say “arent you guys supposed to be at the front of the line?” they laughed that off, its nice weather here this morning, good mood in air. People come out, people come out. Yet these guys don’t move forward. So I ask ” are you guys guarding this door or something? Hear there patting people down all over the US” the one guy goes straight faced, puts his hand on his gun. The other guy makes a pat down motion, stops looks at me then laughs. So there you have it, trigger happy and just happy. Hope happy keeps trigger happy in line on that partnership. They recently shot people around here for the first time, so things are changing. I guess point of this story is to say, everyone heard me at the coffee shop. Im not intimated by a police officer if he is being a bully, and will confront them with sarcasm. I find this helps others to see it’s ok to talk. Don’t be afraid, and get the issues out there, every chance without giving up too much of a persons time. Gotta get the chores down too, can’t talk or comment all day. Keep up the good work AJ. I also plan on becoming a prison planet member in near future as I believe I can fit that into my or should I say our budget soon. Peace

  7. Wha’s the topic again…?

  8. Well that explains why I can find my zipper in the morning when I gotta go real bad. Smoking ain’t healthy thats a fact. But it’s my choice. See everyone is looking for second chances when it comes to your health. I know smoking is bad. Will it shorten my life?Possibly. Will I burden the system when I get sick. Not likely. No transplants, no surgery’s, no treatments. When it’s my time and god calls for me, I’m outta here. Your not gonna like this, what I have to say probably. When we talked last night, the honey and I. We as human being are meant to live natural lives. If you want an example of what I’m saying, watch BBC Planet Earth series. The old and unfortunately the young are usually food for the predators. The herds stay together for protection and migrate for their food needs. Natural. So when you abuse your body, then expect science to fix you, infact you are delaying your natural death. Hence taking away from the next generation. If this keeps up, then ofcourse there is more population than there is supposed to be naturally. Every child deserves their fair chance at life, the best possible start. So to me, someone that didnt respect gods gift doesn’t deserve to take away from a childs chance. Im not talking about getting sick on the job or something. Im talking about those who choose to abuse their bodies intentionally and expect the system or science to fix their mistake. Just my opion, maybe that way “they” wouldn’t need to take that choice of population control for us. And if you don’t think children are the future, think of this. What if nature is giving us solutions and we are not making sure those seeds grow. peace

    • I forgot what I was gonna say…

      • …but I know just who all the bad guys are…! heh,heh,heh…

  9. Sounds like the drug companies need to sell more products. Right now they blame almost every thing on smoking. Of course the bans have helped destroy private property rights which is the key to the constitution and our freedom. Obama 3rd day in office signed a 2000% tax increase on tobacco and the taxes have kept going up since which has created a world wide black market. The bans have put thousands of business out of business and even more people out of work. The black market allows kids of any age to buy cigarettes.
