Some Arab countries oppose Persian language expansion: Official

July 4, The Iran Project – Deputy Director of the International Affairs of Saadi Foundation says some Arabic and Central Asian countries oppose the expansion of Persian language.

Some neighboring countries, including Arabic and Central Asian countries, resist against the expansion of Persian language in their countries, said Seyyed Mohammad Reza Darbandi, the deputy director for international affairs of Sa’di Foundation on Monday, adding but people, and university professors are really interested in learning Persian language.

Speaking about the expansion of Persian language in the world, Darbandi also referred to some countries, like North American countries, European countries and the countries of the subcontinent, where both the government and people are keen to learn Persian language.

Under a memorandum of understanding signed yesterday at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Italian students from University of Venice will enroll in a summer course at the Iranian university for learning Persian language, Iranian Studies and Khorasan Studies.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he pointed to some reasons why Persian language have recently been limited in international level as Iran’s passive measures and lack of appropriate funding.

Saying the Saadi Foundation is responsible for propagating Persian language outside of Iran, he referred to some measure the Foundation has taken to expand Persian language in the world as sending Iranian professors to teach in Persian language courses in different universities, providing educational resources, Persian language expansion in the world’s schools, preventing the closure of Persian language departments, teaching language in cyberspace, producing educational content, etc.

The Saadi Foundation which was established in 2012 aimed at becoming the main resource and reference to anyone who is interested in learning Persian outside or inside Iran, as well as to all individuals and institutions who somehow deal with teaching the Persian language and literature across the world.
