Sidney Powell and Lin Wood, two attorneys who are not part of President Donald Trump’s official legal team but have been promoting his unfounded claims about the presidential election having been stolen from him, held a joint press conference and rally in Georgia Wednesday. Joining Wood and Powell on stage were Georgia state Rep. Vernon Jones and right-wing activists CJ Pearson and Ali Alexander, who called on people to rally at the state capitol on Thursday morning to force legislators to take action to deliver the state’s Electoral College votes to Trump.
Early in the event, Jones generated boos from the crowd when he mentioned voting rights activist and former gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams. But when Jones urged attendees to vote for Republican Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, who are both facing Democratic candidates in Jan. 5 runoff elections, Wood wasn’t having it.
Wood told the right-wing activists that Perdue and Loeffler should have been at the rally. He said they have not been supporting Trump’s election battle, and he told attendees and online viewers that unless Perdue and Loeffler demand that Republican Gov. Brian Kemp call a special session of the legislature to name pro-Trump electors, “They have not earned your vote. Don’t you give it to them.”
Wood called Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger “criminals” who took money from China and said, “I damn well bet you will never sue me because the truth will prove that I am right,” adding, “You need to go do jail.” Alexander has recently threatened to support primary opponents against any Republican who does not back efforts to deliver the election to Trump.
Wood, who recently endorsed a call for Trump to declare martial law and have the military oversee a new election, acted as the event’s emcee, and charged that the Chinese government is behind efforts to steal the election from Trump. “China’s making its move ‘cause they need our land to grow their food,” he said.
“I’ve looked at the real numbers,” Wood told the crowd. He claimed that Trump won more than 410 Electoral College votes. He claimed that Trump “damn near won every state, including California.” In reality, Biden won 306 Electoral College votes to Trump’s 232, and Biden won California by more than 5 million votes.
Wood invoked Martin Luther King, Jr. in encouraging people to engage in nonviolent civil disobedience, saying, “I want you to go to the governor’s mansion. I want you to circle it. I want you to blow your horns until Brian Kemp comes out and orders a special session of the Georgia legislature.” Wood added, “And then he can resign. And then, as far as I’m concerned, lock him up!”
When Wood turned the microphone over to Sidney Powell, she was greeted like a rock star with cheers and chants. “How about Sidney Powell and Mike Flynn in 2024?” Wood asked to cheers from the crowd.
Powell repeated the kind of unfounded charges she has made at press events and in sloppy legal filings. She claimed that “fraud exists in the DNA” of election software and that an “algorithm” flipped votes from Trump to Biden all across the country. She claimed specifically that in one small Georgia precinct, votes for Biden were “weighted” at 1.52 and votes for Trump at .48 “when the votes went into the machine to change them.” She claimed that due to ongoing destruction of evidence, “it wouldn’t even be possible now in Georgia to accurately count the actual ballots.”
Powell claimed to have “traced a lot of the money that did this back to China.” She said, “We will give all our evidence to the Department of Justice as soon as we get it pulled together.”
The crowd jeered at the mention of the DOJ, presumably in response to Attorney General William Barr’s recent statement that he had not yet seen evidence of voter fraud on a scale that could change the election outcome. Powell told people that she, too, has concerns about how the DOJ would handle her evidence, adding, “It’s gonna take a lot of indictments—and fast—to show us that they really mean business because there has been flagrant election fraud.”
When he came back at the microphone, Wood led chants of “Do your job!” directed at Barr.
Wood also said that God wants Trump to be president:
Thank God for Donald Trump. God Almighty created every one of us, and he created Donald Trump, and he gave him a task to fulfill in his life, and that was to be President of the United States in 2020. And he’s going to be president of the United States for four more years. Watch it happen. The people will not allow it to be taken away from them and neither will Almighty God. God’s gonna save this country. …
He’s gonna fill you with the spirit of King David the warrior. We are the rock! The people are the rock, and we’re gonna slay Goliath, the communists, the liberals, the phonies.
Joe Biden will never set foot in the Oval Office of this country. It will not happen on our watch! Never gonna happen!
Later Wood declared:
This is our country. We tell government what they can and cannot do. They do not control the people. This is our country. We’re gonna take it back. We’re circling the walls of Jericho. People are praying in this country. We’re circling the walls of Jericho, and God Almighty’s gonna tear the walls down, and we’re gonna take America back again! You watch it happen. You watch it happen!
