Stress Management Tips

These days, it’s hard not to get overwhelmed once in a while. Between juggling work, family and other commitments, stress can easily take a toll on you.

But, you need to set time aside to relax, else your mental health can suffer. Learning how to manage stress takes practice and here are some ways to make it easier.

  1. Exercise

The best way to relax your body and mind is to put exercising regularly to practice. Plus, it improves your mood. So, how much exercise should you do per week?

  • Good: Three to five times for 30 minutes.
  • Better: 2 hours of intense exercise.
  • Best: 75 minutes of vigorous exercise like swimming or jogging.
  1. Relax Your Muscles

When you take a lot of stress, your muscles get tensed and knotted. But you can loosen them up and refresh your body by going for a stretch, enjoying a massage, taking a hot bath or shower and getting a good night’s sleep.

  1. Deep Breathing

Stopping and taking a few deep breaths can take pressure off you in an instant! All you have to do is sit in a comfortable position with your hands on your lap and keep on the floor. Then close your eyes and imagine yourself in the most relaxing place you know. Take deep breaths in and out and do this for 5 to 10 minutes at a time.

  1. Eat Properly

Eating a regular and well-balanced diet will help you feel better in general. It may also help you control your mood swings. Your meals should be full of vegetables, fruit, whole grains and proteins. Skipping a meal can put you in a bad mood and increase your stress! Eating the right food helps boost your immunity and metabolism.

  1. Learn to Slow Down

Modern life is so busy that sometimes we forget to stop and chill out. By taking some time to look at your life, you will realise that you need to switch to the slow lane.

  • Set your watch 5 minutes to 10 minutes ahead to get to places a little early and avoid the stress of being late.
  • While driving on the highway, avoid the fast lane to avoid road rage.
  • Break down big tasks into smaller ones.
  1. Take a Break

You need to plan some real time to give your mind some time off from stress. If you’re a person who likes to set goals, stick with it and look forward to these moments. You can meditate, do yoga, go out for relaxing walks or listen to your favourite music. Or you can even play some games at

  1. Talk About Your Problems

If something is bothering you, talking about them can help lower your stress. Talk to your family members, friends, your shrink or join any online forums where advices are always offered.

Go easy on yourself, you can’t always do things perfectly no matter how hard you try. You also can’t control everything in your life. Do yourself a favour and stop over thinking. Don’t forget to keep up your sense of humour as laughter goes a long way towards making you feel relaxed and mellow.
