A recent survey carried out in European countries and the United States show that an overwhelming majority of respondents believe Turkey is collaborating with the Daesh terrorist group.

According to Sputnik.Polls, 72 percent of the French public believe that Turkey is turning a blind eye to the operations of Turkish illicit traders who are buying oil from Daesh in Syria.

Over half of Germans (52 percent), 38 percent of Americans and 41 percent of Britons agree that the Turkish authorities might be supporting the illicit oil trade.

The survey was conducted in the United Kingdom, Germany and the United States by Populus, a renowned British research firm, and in France by Ifop, the French Institute of Public Opinion, for Sputnik news agency and radio.

In response to the statement, “Turkey is actively fighting terrorist groups such as Daesh,” 59 percent of respondents in France answered in the negative. In Germany, those who agreed exceeded those who did not agree — 26 and 36 percent, respectively. In the United Kingdom, opinion was divided equally on 23 percent both in favor and against, and in the United States 30 percent agreed and 17 percent disagreed.

The Sputnik-commissioned survey was conducted in the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany on Feb. 3-4, 2016. The survey in France was carried out on Feb. 3-5. People from various regions and of different ages and sexes took part in the poll. The confidence interval was +/-3.1 percent, with a confidence coefficient of 95 percent.

Daesh is a terrorist organization whose activities are banned in many countries, including Russia.
