Sydney brother saves drowning toddler

Patrick Manassa owes his life to big brother Anthony.

The three-year-old was found floating face down in the family pool at Galston, a suburb in Sydney’s northwest, on Monday night.

His lips were blue and he was not breathing.

Anthony, 18, who learned CPR at school six months ago, told Nine News he began resuscitating his young brother straight away and “kind of hoped for the best”.

Patrick was placed in an induced coma, as he still had trouble breathing by himself, and flown to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a critical condition.

But the young boy has managed to make a full recovery and today left the hospital’s intensive care unit.

His family told Nine News they are overjoyed.

Doctors said Anthony’s quick response saved his brother’s life.
