Team Australia has continued strong preparations on the road to Maccabiah in 2022 after information sessions in Sydney and Melbourne were attended by over 300 people.

With athlete nominations open until April 30, the information sessions allowed prospective athletes the opportunity to learn about the Australian team, the timeline and roadmap to participating in Maccabiah, the latest COVID-19 plan, and also the answering of any questions by the Team Australia Executive Group.
Nominations for Team Australia are growing strongly with Maccabi Australia expecting to take a 500-athlete strong group to Israel next year.
Athletes have the opportunity to participate in over 40 different sports and will have the support of top-class coaches and team managers as well as mentorship opportunities from former first-class cricketer, Michael Klinger.
Head of Delegation, Barry Smorgon said: “It’s exciting to see the strong interest and enthusiasm from prospective athletes to participate in the 21st Maccabiah.
Maccabiah truly is an unforgettable, once in a lifetime opportunity, and we encourage all interested Australian Jews to nominate for Team Australia”.
The Israeli Maccabiah management team are also pressing ahead with preparations for the 21st Games and are very confident that the COVID-19 situation will not impact the viability of the event in July 2022.
“We have been in constant communication with the Israel Maccabiah management team and they are very confident about their plans for the Games next year,” said Head of Games Operations and Sport, Sam Gamsu adding “we will not compromise on the safety of Team Australia and are working through all necessary steps to ensure Maccabiah will be an incredible experience for all participants in 2022”.
Prospective athletes still have the chance to learn about participating at Maccabiah with further information sessions planned for Perth (March 14) and Melbourne (March 21).
