Miley Cyrus’ strange twerking affair at the VMA’s caused quite a stir amongst viewers, with many calling her performance “inappropriate”, “bizarre”, and “disgusting”.
Strangely enough, her version of twerking has inspired many young girls across America to release similar videos of themselves trying to mimic the gyrating dance. While twerking has been popular in urban circles for almost a decade, it is suddenly getting a huge boost in popularity largely due to Miley’s recent obsession with the dance.
Power 105.1 FM’s “The Breakfast Club” discussed the increased media coverage of twerking, and questioned why the dance that has been popular in urban circles for so many years has only gained mainstream popularity now that Miley Cyrus is doing it.
‘Miley Cyrus was not twerking,’ joked the popular morning radio show from New York. “If you’re trying to twerk and you have no a**, all you’re doing is shaking your long back.”
They went on to comment that America needs to stop acting like Cyrus invented the dance, and acknowledge that all she did was invent a new dance called “shaking your long back.”
“The Breakfast Club”, which includes DJ Envy, Angela Yee, and Charlamagne Tha God, is one of the nation’s most popular morning radio shows and has recently began broadcasting to Hampton Roads, VA audiences.
