The Curse of the Griffin (Photos)

The Curse of the Griffin is a coming of age saga about a young boy who is about to become a man — or perhaps, something entirely different. Daniel is a young, starving artist, attempting to eke out a living in a town that (quite literally) is all but sucking the very life blood out of him. In this first book of Jerome Walford‘s proposed trilogy, we meet the “unturned” Daniel who accepts an invitation to a party that is being held by vampires in order for him to get the chance to meet his first crush, Jessica Winters. Needless to say this was not only quite an unwise decision on Daniel’s part, it probably wasn’t the best decision that he’s ever made. As can be expected, Daniel winds up getting wrapped up in a rebel uprising against the vampires, that will take nothing short of pure magic to save him, and everyone else.

Curse of the Griffin is an urban fantasy saga where true friendship is tested and sworn enemies must band together to survive in a world that is being torn apart by an epic struggle between creatures of magic and an influential vampire cult. According to Walford the ebook of the novel, Daniel’s Pride, is already available on Amazon. What this Kickstarter project is designed to do, according to Walford is to raise funds in order to create the printed, illustrated special edition version of Daniel’s Pride, the first novel in his trilogy Curse of the Griffin. The minimum goal will make possible to produce a hardcover version, complete with sketches, concept art, character portraits and battle scenes. Stretch goals will further upgrade the special edition, adding color, more art and a brand new comic chapter. Each special edition book will be signed and numbered; naturally enough, lower counts are first come first serve.

Now while there might be some of you out there who will roll your eyes and say, “Oh no, not another vampire book! But make no mistake about it; this is not a skin-deep horror story about vampires, like so many juvenile novels circulating today. This is a serious social commentary about a soulless Orwellian society that drains the lifeblood of its citizens, namely their human creativity. Walford’s Curse of the Griffin: Daniel’s Pride rises head and shoulders above most other vampire book, which pale in comparison. Written in a lighthearted vein, it nevertheless goes for the jugular of an oppressive regime. Read it for its entertainment value; rejoice in its triumph over an engorged plutocracy. According to Jack Sheedy, (the book’s editor), “Curse of the Griffin: Daniel’s Pride is bloody good writing.”

The novel portion of this project is complete and already available. A good portion of the illustration work for the limited edition is already in progress and Walford is very confident that it will be done on time and will be his strongest work to date

This project will only be funded if at least $15,000 is pledged by Saturday Aug 24, 2013.
