The Hellenic Initiative, or THI, is offering support to Greek entrepreneurs hoping to make a positive impact on the world through their second annual Venture Impact Awards (VIA).

Last year, during the first iteration of VIA, the Initiative’s newest program, THI offered cash prizes amounting to $250,000 to 14 Greek organizations making a difference, such as Enaleia, Wise Greece, and Apiceuticals.

VIA, which was established with the support of the Helidoni Foundation and The Charles C. Condes Trust, is aimed at helping support “Greece’s brightest and most talented teams,” THI said in a statement. This includes both for profit and nonprofit enterprises.

The Hellenic Initiative is looking to help companies, NGOs, and other organizations that work with the purpose of bettering society.

George P. Stamas, Board President of THI, stated that the Initiative’s goal behind the awards for Greek entrepreneurs was not just to “thank them, but to actively support them in their journey both financially and morally.”

“Behind every great organization there are passionate people who struggle each day to do their best for themselves and those around them,” Stamas expressed.

“Our belief is that with our help, they will have the resources to grow and create more positive impact in the Greek society,” he continued.

THI was founded in 2012 by Greeks of the diaspora and philhellenes to provide direct philanthropy and aid to Greece and the Greek people. A large part of THI’s mission is to “to provide crisis relief, encourage entrepreneurs, and create jobs.”

THI Board Member Dimitri Georgakopoulos stated, “THI, always committed to its mission, despite the pandemic, managed to showcase its support to Greek innovation and entrepreneurship by establishing the VIA in 2020.”

“After their successful completion last year, we are pleased to announce that applications are now open again. We are looking forward to reviewing this year’s candidates and we are confident that as last year we are going to be truly inspired by their actions and missions,” he expressed.

Any organizations interested in VIA can submit their proposals to THI until October 15. The winners will be announced at an event at the end of this year.

Applicants will be judged depending on a range of criteria, such as their “ability to generate financial returns” and “promote innovation,” as well as “how through their mission, they showcase human, social or environmental impact.”

Harriette Condes Zervakis, representative of The Charles C. Condes Trust, stated about VIA, “We are happy to be working together with The Hellenic Initiative and the Helidoni Foundation in this amazing project that actively supports fresh innovative ideas of young Greek entrepreneurs that are jump starting the Greek economy.”

THI dedicated to supporting Greeks

The VIA is just one of THI’s many programs aimed at providing support to Greece and the Greek people.

Since its foundation, the Hellenic Initiative has invested over $16.5 million in supporting Greeks who have struggled due to the financial crisis, both by providing humanitarian aid and by funding economic development programs.

THI has also established countless programs that provide Greek entrepreneurs with mentorship, guidance, education, and financial support, including Envolve Greece, Venture Garden, and the Athens Venture Fair.
