“First they came…” is a famous saying that was attributed to pastor Martin Niemöller regarding the lack of action taken against the Nazis during the World War 2 era. The statement accurately sums up how a lack of action can result in mass corruption, pain, and even death.

The saying goes like this:

First they came for the communists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a Jew.

Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.

This in turn also means that people hardly ever lookout for their fellow man (or woman). As a result, people often find themselves without help when their own times of trouble come.

It’s important to recognize that life is something we all uniquely experience together. Without social classes or ideologies to guide us, we would find that most of the things we place value on in society are actually not important. Appearances, money, material things – energy wasted on empty pursuit in the form of expensive hobbies, entertainment, and especially meaningless endeavors governed by money.

Don’t be afraid to use your influence to make a difference in the lives of others. It means a lot more to help a person — or an entire population — with their life than it does to satisfy a more carnal desire. These kinds of decisions are often overlooked in the hustle of daily life, though they are some of the most important we can ever make. In a world where love is increasingly being taken out from interaction, life can become impersonal and cold. This won’t be the case, however if you have a wish for preservation.

It’s no crutch or weakness to rely on other people, but many people are unreliable because of their desire to help only themselves. Where does the solution start? With you. Your actions can prove to be a positive influence on others to the point where they will begin to do the same. It all starts with an injection of positive energy.

I see a lot of scripture quoting and comments with strong Christian overtones, to explain how we should treat one another. However, please consider this troubling fact about the Bible. The Bible promotes violence, murder and even genocide for a multitude of different reasons. In many cases, the Bible says God ordered his followers to exterminate entire populations, and this often was justified by God’s condemnation of other cultures who wished to peacefully pursue their own ways of life. This was especially true when Joshua led a war of extermination against the city states of Caanan, where tens of thousands of men, women and children were all put to the sword. As a result Modern day generals have often used the Bible as a handbook for warfare, because the Jews used sophisticated military tactics and strategies to combat armies many times the strength of their own. The Bible advocates killing anyone who does not follow the Christian way, and this fact was made brutally apparent during the first Crusade in 1096. The Christian army cut a swath of death and destruction from one end of the holy land to the other. When they ran out of food, they sacked a new city. When they would enter a new town or walled citadel, men, women and children were systematically obliterated. Muslims, Jews and Eastern Orthodox Christians all met the same fate. Right before their final March to Jerusalem, the Crusaders once again ran out of food. They apparently missed the section in the Bible where cannibalism is frowned on, because the army began eating the bodies of the dead; who had been that way for over a month! Islam is not the only religion that has been used to justify slaughtering innocent souls in the so-called “name of God.” And if we want to get technical, before the Muslims lost control of the holy-land after the first crusade, all peoples living in their newly conquored cities were well treated and allowed to freely practice their own religion; whatever it may be. When the Christians came, those same people were either executed or forced to convert to Western Christianity. Anyone else was quickly put to death. Christianity has been responsible for far too much needless death and promotes intolerant behavior in ways that no other religion ever has. Besides all that, the version of Jesus’s life that we have has been purposely altered, the context of many events from Jesus’ life are kept hidden without remorse and the Bible is essentially a form of propaganda doubling as a form of indoctrinating blackmail. It’s propaganda because it takes kernels of truth and weaves many lies and misrepresentations over top in order to get followers to “fall in line.” It is a form of indoctrinating blackmail, because in Christian socities, hell is offered as the consequence of non-compliance. This so-called “fact” is instilled into children at a very early age, making it indoctrinating nonsense. So many things have been taken out of context in the Bible that it becomes more and more dubious that what was orginally written is what we see in the Bible today. For example, Jesus said to his followers that if a roman soldier forces you to carry his equipment pack for one mile, instead carry it two. Most people think this is Jesus’ way of practicing compassion towards someone who probably doesn’t deserve any. However, anyone with intimate knoweldge about Roman history knows that a law existed, which stated a Roman soldier could make a civilian carry his equipment for one mile and one mile only. Anything more than that, would lead to being physically punished by whipping or flogging depending on how many extra miles the civilian carried the soldiers equipment. The Romans had a wondrous machine that enabled them to place mile markers at exactly the right interval; meaning that there can be no confusion about how far the distance traveled is. So when Jesus told his followers forced to carry a soldiers equipment pack to carry it for two miles instead of one, he was actually telling his followers to do something that would result in the soldier being whipped to a bloody pulp. Even his “turn the other cheek” statement is misunderstood. In the ancient world a person used his left and right hands for very specific reasons. The left hand would be used to wipe after going to the bathroom(yuck!) and nothing else. The right hand would be used in all other circumstances. Also, in the ancient Roman world, striking someone with the palm of your hand indicates a sign of respect. However, striking someone with the back of the hand is a sign of disrespect. What happens then, if someone struck Jesus and he turns the other cheek? His attacker would have two choices if he wishes to strike Jesus a second time, since using his left hand would be out of the question. The attacker could either make the second strike with the palm of their hand, thus showing Jesus respect when that was never the intention. Or the attacker can give up the endevor and keep it moving. Again, Jesus wasn’t practicing compassion and humility. He was teaching his deciples how to stick it to the Romans!

Are we really to look to the Bible for guidance on how to live peacefully and compassionately? I find those terms and the Bible’s message to be utterly imcompatiable. Empathy, or the ability to understand how a person is feeling, without necessarily experiencing the same tribulations. Empathy leads to compassion, compassion leads to understanding, understanding leads to resolve; resolve to work out our differences by maintaining balance between needs of others and our own. When we learn to understand others in a holistic manner, we realize that we’re not so different, after all. If we could just get rid of the need to try and force others over to our way of thinking, we wouldn’t be in the huge mess that humanity has willingly created for itself. It isn’t “I” or “me”. It’s “us” and “we.” I promise all of you, that when you begin focusing on the needs of others and show them that you genuinely care for their well-being, you will almost always endear yourself to them. If everyone did everything possible to care for others, then none of us, not one single human-being would be left out. Richard Dawkins has absolutely no clue what he’s talking about when he said that selfishness is good for the species. BULL! Selfishness is the biggest reason humanity is in such peril. Remember, it is empathy that we need practice. Once we learn to understand how others are feeling, it becomes increasingly difficult to ignore their plight…

I recently watched a documentry called, “The third wave”. It was about a few ppl who felt compelled to go to sri lanka after the tsunami to help. I learned, that the majority of the donations we all heard about on tv… never made it to the people in need. So from the get go…many people who had acess to the donations apparently felt they had better uses for that money…anywho…another thing that surprised me was how few people came to help, I just assumed based on all those organizations claiming to be helping, that more people would be there giving hands on help. I was so inspired by those that did go, and the film even caught a glimpse of what a simple mistake of unfair treatment (sincere but poor judgement)opened up the evils of jealousy, hate and the notion of entitlement. If you want to get a good insight of what true love and caring is, what it can accomplish, have a look at this documentry. It really puts life in perspective.

I know people like this. My family is all like this. They have no thoughts on their mind every day other than keeping their family entertained, and taking them on vacations. But the important things, tyhe things that you and I are passionate about, are nothing but hoaxes and conspiracy theories to them. If people would only realize that WE ARE ALL ONE, then they could dredge up a little compassion for the innocent Iraqis murdered during the course of an ilegal and unjust “war”.
They’d realize that when an Iraqi gets killed, I get killed.

Article seems to suggest disillusionment as the central problem. That may be the case for some fraction, but what I mainly see is a disconnect caused by affluence, liesure, and some sense of (false?) security. Despite low-grading the economy, I still see highways jammed with one person per vehicle driving 10′s of miles to work, or to shopping at centers with parking lots over half full. For Pete’s sake, people pay thousands of dollars for plane fare, nights in a hotel, expensive food, and copious alcohol just to go sit in a little metal chair surrounded by smelly drunk a-holes to watch a football game.

Practically every week is some new ‘crisis’ on Dancing with Stars or American Idol, occasionally interrupted by some celebrity getting a divorce, drunk, or dying followed by wall-to-wall footage of rap gangstas in fur, bling, sunglasses walking like apes at the funeral.

And, there’s nothing to fear – every day, and I mean EVERY day out comes a new story of some new intrusion by government in our lives to guarantee our security. Giving the impression that we’re inching ever closer to that elusive utopian reality of no one ever getting hurt or even suffering the slightest negative experience.

People don’t reach to neighbors because they don’t need them anymore. Besides, everyone knows by now the earth is overpopulated and all the smartest, hippest people with the coolest gadgets are telling us a bunch of people need to just go ahead and die. And what better person than all those stupid neighbors?

Neighbors aren’t needed for security – government is taking care of that. Not for help with recovery from illness or injury either – 911 and a whole bank of EMT heroes and free medical care await eagerly at the other end. And with cell phones you can call 911 the instant you get that splinter in your finger no matter where you are, and within 5 minutes a paramedic truck, a fire truck, and 2 cop cars will come screaming to your rescue.

And we certainly don’t need neighbors for food. Heck, even a 30-year-old so obese (s)he can hardly walk can access more (and safer) food for free with only the effort it takes to fill out a form and get some food coupons than an entire family of 6 in 18th or 19th c. America would have after toiling dawn to dusk for an entire year.

(Some sarcasm sprinkled in the above.) While I understand and agree with the writer’s entreaty, I don’t think the neghbor bond will really return until we’re absolutely collapsed with all lifelines crashed, roaming bands of merderous thieves, and we’re on our own for mere day-to-day survival. (Read any history or historical diary of the American territorial west during the 19th century.) It certainly doesn’t hurt to start sewing the seeds for those relationships early on, but keep in mind that in desperate times people (even those who seemed to be trustworthy) will do desperate things.

  People don’t connect with their neighbours anymore because it is seen to be ‘good neighbouring’ if people butt out of other peoples lives… I am sure you would be the first to complain if your neighbours turned up to visit uninvited, especially if they are wearing the latest fashion in size 4.
Tyranny’s weapon of choice is fear. Tyranny succeeds when good people do nothing. So they succeed by keeping good people afraid of them. They will continue to succeed as long as good people are afraid if them. And isn’t it sad? Sad because there’s so few bad guys, and so many goodguys. Take down their fortress of fear. Only then can tyranny be laied to rest.

I used to play as a child in Canada with what we called a top that functioned like a toy that whirled so fast it stayed centered on the floor just spinning so fast but stable! When it slowed down though that was different…It started to whobble and stray from it’s center position all over the floor and finally crash to it’s side out of power!

The Unnerving Segue to Despotism

Introduction: My name is Joseph Applegarth. I am forty-nine years old, and I have lived in Chadron, Nebraska, since I was fifteen. I am a seasoned plumber of thirty years. However, I currently own a portable restroom business and a pumping service. However, I have spent the last five years studying law in order to survive the vicious attacks waged against me from the various facets of government as it continues to inexorably sink into the quagmire of despotism. This life changing experience has persuaded me to host documentary DVDs in an effort to better our society and attempt to reestablish our unalienable rights defined within the American Constitution.

Personal Lifestyle: Nine years ago, my wife and I exacted a self-sustaining [green] lifestyle. This is a natural and disciplined way of life where nothing goes to waste. Everything is recycled and accounted for. Our electricity is produced from the sun and wind, and our water is derived from rain and, on occasions, an independent well. The renewable energy of firewood heats our home, and in Dawes County there is an infinite source.

My First Introduction to Tyranny: In the fall of 2004, during the completion of our self-sufficient project, my wife and I were accosted by a nefarious minion of despotism wearing a badge and a gun. This implacable tyrant demanded that we abnegate from our self-sustaining project, immediately, or he would seize our property thus making us homeless. Shortly after wits, I contacted the Derry Brownfield Show and was featured as his guest regarding this injustice. The media coverage after wits quelled this aberrant bullying by local government. Regardless of the detail, what manifested in this case is that the touting of self sustainability is tolerated as long as you do not actually consummate hence champion this meritorious lifestyle. Unfortunately, America has grown accustomed to this type of hypocrisy and fraud thus turning a blind eye and refusing to hold the obdurate government accountable for the egregious contravention of our rights. Incidentally, this particular police chief was eventually fired, and my wife and I have not been persecuted since that time concerning our green lifestyle.

My Second Introduction to Tyranny: In the fall of 2006, my wife and I decided to attend college classes at Chadron State College to advance our previous educations. We noticed a substantial change in the social and curricular atmosphere in contrast to our former experience years ago. The majority of the staff was composed of loathsome yes-men, metaphorically speaking. The English Department consisted mostly of extreme left-winged atheists. Their impiety and Marxist mindset was salient. Naturally, my wife and I were anachronistic in our appearance resulting from our seasoned countenance as adults. I was immediately identified as being a stalwart conservative, and therefore culled as a candidate for extirpation. Most people are unaware of the fact that secular colleges have secret agendas. Therefore, they demand obsequious conformity from their students moreover an inculcated leftwing philosophy to be adhered to, and ultimately to produce a sycophantic yes-man type of soulless robot that will emerge upon graduation to obey every commanded they are given by their New World Order authority figures. This type of mind control is the essence of despotism. Think of the deleterious effect that this chicanery has already had on our society. It is obvious why we have lost our freedoms in America. This has been allowed to prosper for many years.

At any rate, I was sent a draconian letter from Dr. Randy Rhine banishing me, indefinitely, from the campus of Chadron State College and offering no explanation whatsoever. I was blatantly denied the Due Process of Law that is guaranteed to me by virtue of our American Constitution. The injustice of this dictatorial arrogance was enraging, especially since nobody seemed to care. I canvassed hundreds of professionals within government as well as educational presidiums. I contacted the Board of Trustees and every prominent person defining the leadership hence overseers of Chadron State College to no avail. Nobody cared. Finally a Nebraska Senator named Chuck Hagel requested a hearing, endemic to the college, to be conducted to consider the gravity of their actions. I prudently brought three credible witnesses to this specious meeting which was convened under duress. An English professor named Dr. Dean Tucker asserted his mendacities against me in an ignoble effort to denigrate my character. However, they were quickly dispelled by eyewitnesses and proven to be traducing. Mr. Tucker was embarrassed and relented. After the meeting concluded, Mr. Rhine reconfirmed his banishment against me. Despite the odds against me, I am a hardcore plumber inured by years of unpleasant working conditions, and I am accustomed to finishing difficult projects using redneck grit and determination. I naturally pursued unrelentingly to reverse this reprehensible injustice against me and in spite of the insurmountable odds, I prevailed. Consequently, the Janie Park administration was forced to abrogate the banishment order imposed against me. However, I never attended another class at CSC and never plan to after that harrowing experience.

My Third Experience with Tyranny: In the spring of 2007, I performed over $7,000.00 dollars worth of free pumping services to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. I never received a thank you, but what I did receive was a subsequent fine of $100.000.00 dollars for not having purchased a certification from the state for operating a pumping truck. Keep in mind that I hold a commercial driver’s license with every endorsement attainable. However, the certification that the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality offers for sale, and, for profit, is voluntary. I tenaciously repudiated the fine and it was eventually dropped after much acrimony and contention. Notwithstanding, I could not comply with their expensive certification ploy, so they vindictively attempted to exhaust me through a barrage of litigations. Ultimately, we ended up in courtroom and I represented myself as a pro se litigant and presenting a stellar defense, much to the dismay of the disconcerted prosecution. Regardless, the Judge’s predictable verdict was rendered against me, and I was denied a trial by jury; imagine that. The moral to this story is that no good deed goes unpunished when dealing with the government, and the deck is stacked when you go to court.

The Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality has recently waged war against me and are trying to put me out of business by making sure that I have no place to dispose of liquid waste. Even municipal facilities designed for such disposal can be denied to me or be made so cost prohibitive that it is impossible to afford. This rogue bureaucracy has aggressively accosted many of my customers and threatened them with exorbitant fines if they continued to use my services. I am in the troughs of this battle right now. Our government is draconian and out of control.

In Conclusion: This is the ugly face of tyranny that is no different that the cruelty demonstrated by the Nazis during World War II. The minions of today’s demagogues have advanced technology at their disposal which makes their persecution of dissidents far more virulent and dangerous than that of their predecessors. The fact of the matter is that our government is too large and out of control. The malignant mindset of power and control is unquenchable. When government employees coalesce with this type of baneful misanthropy, there is no hope of rehabilitation. These people are dangerous and always will be. America has lost its way.

  also should have obtained an attorney to work with you. One, because you were

  A nephew of mine had problems in college with the atheist scumbags constant attacks.
  I mentored him on how to deal with atheists and satanists and they started leaving
  him alone. Even his professors clammed up.lol They hate hearing the truth.
- Mr. Applegarth: Perhaps you wouldn’t have been kicked off of campus had you refrained from stalking a female professor and sexually harassing her by personally delivering letters to her house telling her how pretty she is and how good she smells. It’s nice how you conveniently leave out these details every time you rant on a website in your psycho-babble about how you got kicked off a college campus. Why don’t you ever just tell the truth?
