This Marine Stood Guard For 8 Hours, The Reason Why Will Leave You In Tears

A 12-year-old boy who was battling leukemia for most of his life died resulting from complications from the illness. But what a Marine Corps veteran did was incredible.

The boy, Cody Green of Indiana, “always admired the strength and courage of the Marines,” according to news reports at the time.

The U.S. Marine Corps made Green an honorary member:

Members of the Marines decided to step in and do something.

“They decided Cody, with the strength and honor and courage he showed through the whole thing, he should be a Marine,” said Cody’s father David Snowberger.

Cody was given Marine navigator wings and was made an honorary member of the United States Marine Corps.

But one former Marine, identified as Sergeant Mark Dolfini, went the extra mile. He stood outside of Cody’s hospital door all night long, approximately 8 hours, until Cody passed away.

“Unfortunately, Cody was not awake, he was on a ventilator, but we believe he knew,” Close family friend Keristen Ford told MailOnline.

“The night before Cody passed, he stood guard at Cody’s door at the hospital all night long for eight hours straight,” Cody’s father, David Snowberger, told WLFI-TV.

Dolfini was apprehensive to go to the public and speak because he was afraid it would take away from the boy’s story.

“There was no question that was my calling that night,” he said. “I didn’t give myself a time constraint and I knew I was going to be there as long as I could be.”
