Tunisia’s political parties begin national talks

Ali LaarayedhTunisia’s ruling EnNahda party has started a national dialogue on Friday with the opposition ‘Salvation Front’ to form a caretaker government and prepare for general elections.

The dialogue is aimed at ending the political crisis in the country.

Most of the country’s secular and leftist parties have decided to participate in the national dialogue after the current government gave an undertaking to leave office within three weeks.

Sources in the ruling troika confirm that the undertaking to dissolve the government is part of a complete package that includes the setting up of an election commission and fixing the date of elections.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ali Laarayedh is reported to have said that he would not leave office until all the conditions of the agreement have been met so as not to create a political vacuum in the country.
