UK fraud prosecutors have arrested two men in the capital, London, as part of a corruption probe into bribery and corruption at aerospace and defense group Rolls Royce.
UK’s Serious Fraud Office (SFO) said in a statement on Wednesday that it had detained two men and that both the National Crime Agency and City of London Police had assisted with the operation.
“In connection with a Serious Fraud Office investigation, we can confirm a number of search warrants have been executed at various properties in London today. Two men were also arrested,” said the SFO.
Rolls Royce, the world’s second-largest maker of aircraft, has declined to comment on the two arrests and searches.
The SFO launched a formal investigation into concerns about bribery and corruption in overseas markets such as China and Indonesia last December, according to Rolls Royce.
The company has earlier said it had passed information to the SFO relating to the allegations and that it could face prosecution.
This is not the first time a firm within the defense and aerospace industry is involved in a corruption case.
Europe’s largest defense contractor UK’s BAE Systems was fined USD 450 million in 2010 following corruption probes into deals made both domestically and abroad, including in Saudi Arabia, Tanzania, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Hungary.
