Thai authorities have reportedly charged two men accused of killing Australian travel agent Michelle Smith.




Two men have demonstrated to Thai police how they killed an Aust travel agent in a botched bag-snatching.




An Australian woman has been killed on the Thai island of Phuket during a bag-snatch gone wrong.

TWO Thai men accused of killing Australian travel agent Michelle Smith have been charged over her death in a bungled bag snatch.


Mrs Smith, 60, of Perth died from a stab wound to the chest and her friend Tammee Lynn, 42, was slashed on the arm when they were attacked by two men on a motorcycle as they walked towards Kata Noi Bay hotel about 10.30pm on June 20.

Alleged killer Surasak ”Boy” Suwannachot, 26, and and his getaway motorcycle rider, Surin Taptong, 37, have been charged with cooperating to kill a person for personal benefit, taking property with a weapon, causing death and injury and carrying a weapon in a public place.

The men allegedly circled the women several times before attempting to steal their handbags and lashing out with a knife, but fled empty-handed.

The women had been part of a contingent of 10 travel agents that were part of a famil of resorts on the popular Thai holiday island.

Phuket police have said the men confessed to the attack which they allegedly staged to pay a $10 (300 baht) drinks bill.

Mrs Smith’s husband Geoff said he was receiving regular updates about the case from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, but they were still awaiting confirmation of a court date.
