UK prince denies reluctance to kingship

Charles’s denigration of kingship was part of leaked snippets of a Time magazine story, based on comments by someone from his household.

“They (royal staff) are worried about how to utilize his time… the word prison was talking about the loss of freedom of time, that was it,” Catherine Meyer, the author of the profile piece in the magazine, said.

Meyer used interviews with 50 of Charles’s friends and former employees in the piece, therefore it is not known who was the source of the quote.

However, Charles’s spokesman denied the report saying he has not made such a comment.

“This is not the Prince of Wales’s view and should not be
attributed to him as he did not say these words,” said the spokesman.

“The prince has dutifully supported the queen all his life and his official duties and charitable work have always run in parallel,” he added.

The report on Charles’s dislike of kingship is against the common media portrait of him as keen to take over from his 87-year-old mother.
