UK resumes visa service in Iran

“The British Embassy in Tehran and UK Visas & Immigration today resumed visa service in Iran, as promised 6 months after reopening Embassy,” UK’s Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond posted on Twitter Tuesday.

The Iranian Embassy in London and the UK diplomatic mission in Tehran had agreed to resume issuing visas beginning March, following a meeting between UK Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

Iran and the UK reopened embassies in August 2015, after the thaw in the relationship between the two countries came after Iran and the 5+1 group of countries reached an agreement on Tehran’s nuclear program in July.

Iran’s historic nuclear agreement was implemented at a ceremony in Vienna on 16 January 2016.
