UK to sabotage Annan’s peace plan?

On Thursday evening, Hague is to announce that Britain would provide Syria’s armed rebels with half a million pounds, Britain’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) reported in a statement on its official website.

While the FCO claims in its statement that the support for Syria’s rebels “includes agreement in principle for practical non-lethal support to them inside Syria,” official reports have already revealed the leading role Britain played in Syrian armed rebels’ bloody battle against Syrian civilians.

The Israeli website Debka-file, known for its links with military intelligence sources, reported last month that British forces supplied armed terror gangs in the Syrian city of Homs with arms, logistics, and intelligence.

Furthermore, it was revealed that Britain’s intelligence agency, MI6, established four centers of operation in Homs.

According to excerpts of Hague’s speech released by the FCO, Britain will help rebels “inside and outside the country” so that they will be able to “develop themselves as a credible alternative to Assad.”

Britain’s push for establishing “a credible alternative” in Syria comes as it sold over £1m worth of rifles and military equipment to the Bahraini regime over the same period when the regime systematically tortured protesters and committed human rights violations, according to the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry.

Hague’s announcement that Britain would help rebels inside Syria is clearly a response to President Assad’s accepting Annan’s proposal which calls for a ceasefire and dialogue between rebels and the government.
