US immigrants protest discrimination

Tuesday’s protests came after data from the US Border Patrol and the Los Angeles Police Department showed that American citizens are responsible for the drug crimes often blamed on the immigrants.

The US Border Patrol said 80 percent of arrests made in drug-smuggling cases are American citizens.

Local authorities confirmed that immigrants are in the minority when it comes to violent crimes like assaults and shootings.

Immigrant rights’ groups are angered that millions of families continue to be broken up by rampant deportations and want American lawmakers to work together to finally pass comprehensive immigration reform.

The protest comes as public support for immigrants is reaching an all-time high.

California is home to 25 percent of the country’s 11 million undocumented immigrants. Immigrants make up more than one-third of California’s workforce.

Immigrants in Los Angeles say they are planning to have their next march in Washington D.C.
