2008 – Puppy-throwing video emerges

In March 2008 a video emerged that appeared to show an American Marine hurling
a puppy off a cliff in Iraq. The footage provoked widespread outrage death
threats. Lance Corporal David Motari was kicked out of the Corps as a result
and a second Marine was disciplined.

2005 – “Ramadi madness”

A National Guard unit deployed to Iraq made its own crude documentary of its
time in Iraq. Much of the footage was benign but some showed soldiers
jokingly manipulating bodies of dead Iraqis. In one scene soldiers appear to
beat a wounded detainee and draw on another with marker pen. The video was
removed from the internet but no charges were brought against the soldiers.
A military spokesman said their behaviour was “inappropriate rather
than criminal.
