US Rep. vows to block nominee votes

Senator Lindsay Graham said on Sunday that he would stop the nomination vote of John Brennan and Chuck Hagel until the White House gives an account for Obama’s actions during the September 11, 2012 attack.

“I want to know what our president did. What did he do as commander in chief? Did he ever pick up the phone and call anybody? I think this is the stuff the country needs to know,” said Graham.

Under legislative rules, a single senator can prevent the nomination from coming to a vote of the full Senate.

Democrat Senator Jack Reed said it was “unprecedented, unwarranted” to hold back a vote on nominations.

“These are critical offices,” said Reed, adding, “To dwell on a tragic incident and use that to block people is not appropriate.”

US ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens and three members of his staff died in the attack in Benghazi.

Graham and other Republicans blame the US administration of misleading the public by initially stating it was a mob inflamed by an anti-Muslim video, which carried out the attack.
