The US trooper “died as a result of a combat related injury in western Afghanistan yesterday,” the US Army said in a Wednesday statement.
The statement did not reveal the exact location of the attack or the name of the victim.
In May, the Taliban militant group announced the launch of its annual spring offensive dubbed “Al-Farooq” against foreign and Afghan forces.
At least 257 US-led soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan so far this year.
Insecurity continues to rise across Afghanistan despite the presence of about 130,000 US-led forces in the country.
The high number of military casualties in Afghanistan has intensified opposition in the United States and other NATO members against the protracted war in the country.
