Van Halen planning a big year?

Squashing the rumors about the members of Van Halen not being able to work together, the band has been putting together a busy 2013, involving international shows, a festival in the United States, and hints at more.

The band will be headlining at the Stone Music Festival in Australia next month, before their long-anticipated shows in Japan in June. Back in the states, Rock USA Oshkosh just announced that Van Halen will top the bill at their festival, appearing on July 20, in the last slot of the last day of the 4-day event. Some of the other rockers signed on include Ratt, Dokken, and Queensryche.

In a move seemingly designed to tease fans, a photo of Eddie Van Halen and rap superstar LL Cool J appearing to collaborate in a studio was posted without comment or explanation on the legendary guitarist’s Facebook page. It set off a frenzy of speculation among fans, who remember when Eddie joined musical forces with Michael Jackson on the pop star’s groundbreaking hit “Beat It.”

Meanwhile, David Lee Roth made an appearance on The Adam Carolla Show yesterday. The singer spent an hour and a half with the radio host, talking about a variety of topics – the pre-fame Van Halen days, his family, the story behind the brown M&Ms contract rider, current events, and his own short-lived nationally syndicated radio talk show on CBS – but little about the band’s future plans.

In news of former members of Van Halen, ex-VH bassist Michael Anthony recently spoke with Peavy TV about his move from the iconic band to Chickenfoot, with fellow one-time Van Halen member, singer Sammy Hagar (who replaced David Lee Roth from 1985-1996, then reunited with the band for a tour in 2004). “Everybody has done a lot in their respective pasts, and have attained success and everything that goes along with it. So, with Chickenfoot, we can basically get together and just have fun as four friends playing music,” he said of the casual jam sessions that morphed into a band.
